EMS Training

Program Opportunities

Haywood Community College offers a variety of certification and re-certification training opportunities for individuals and groups.

Students will be able to meet the needs of the local EMS agencies, healthcare providers, and the public. Our courses are designed to assist individuals desiring employment or retraining.

With skills obtained to help stabilize and safely transport patients, provide CPR and other critical care needs, you will have an important role in assisting our community and the healthcare field.

This program is currently under LOR for CoAEMSP accreditation.

Students in the EMS and Prehospital Personnel program will gain knowledge in all areas required to maintain state and National certifications.

Monthly classes are held at local fire departments in Haywood County.

students in ambulance HCC offers a variety of courses for EMS Certification.

This course requires students to have their GED, HS Diploma, or successful completion of a reading comprehension evaluation at a 10th grade level.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course will require students to:

  • Obtain a minimum of 48 hours of field rotations
  • Have their GED, HS Diploma, or successful completion of a reading comprehension evaluation at an 11th grade level.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course requires students to:

  • Obtain a minimum of 108 hours of clinical/field rotations
  • Have their GED or HS Diploma
  • Receive recent immunizations, drug screening, and criminal background check
  • Have successful completion of reading comprehension, language, and total mathematics at a 12.9+ level

Paramedic Initial Course requirements:

  • Obtain a minimum of 340 hours of clinical/field rotations
  • Have GED or HS Diploma
  • Receive recent immunizations, drug screening, and criminal background check
  • Have successful completion of reading comprehension, language, and total mathematics at a 12.9+ level

To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), Psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited programs are required to meet outcome benchmarks each year. Outcomes include but are not limited to North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examinations:

Haywood Community College offers monthly online courses for BLS, ALS, EMS & Prehospital personnel, and Critical Care for EMS and Prehospital personnel.

Credit hours are granted upon successful completion of course requirements. This is a good way to catch up on the required CE hours or refresh your skills.

Community First Aid and CPR classes are held the first Wednesday of every month from 5:00pm - 10:00pm.

K-12 CPR Classes
This course is designed to instruct responders working in the K12 school system in the basics of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), with a focus on cardiac, breathing, and other life-threatening medical emergencies as well as awareness of the hazards of blood-borne pathogens. Upon successful completion, the student may qualify to receive certification through a certifying agency.
