Student Achievement

Haywood Community College (HCC) utilizes multiple measurements to monitor Student Achievement on a yearly basis. The primary means of monitoring Student Achievement is through the NC Community College System’s Performance Measures for Student Success. Additionally, HCC also monitors the National Student Clearinghouse's (NSC) Total Completion Rate as the Graduation Rate portion of our Student Achievement measures.

Performance Measures for Student Success

The Performance Measures for Student Success Report is the North Carolina Community College System’s (NCCCS) major accountability document. This annual performance report is based on data compiled from the previous year and serves to inform colleges and the public on the performance of our 58 community colleges.

The latest report is available at NCCCS State and Federal Performance Measures. This report contains information for all colleges in the system. The data for these measures are generated by reports created at the college and submitted to the system office for inclusion in the NCCCS Data Warehouse, a repository of record for college information. Additional interactive analytic reports are also available via the NCCCS Dashboards.

The current results for HCC can be found in the table below.

Graduation Rate

In support of Strategic Plan for Institutional Excellence and in compliance with SACSCOC Standard 8.1, HCC has identified the National Student Clearinghouse’s (NSC) Total Completion Rate as the Graduation Rate portion of the Student Achievement Measures. As shown below, HCC has outperformed the peer group (other 2-year colleges nationwide) in each year shown. Also, except for 2014, HCC’s Completion Rate trends upward, with an over 4 percentage point gain from 2010 to 2013 and an over 15 percentage point gain from 2014 to 2017. The Student Success Council reviews graduation rates and other student success measures throughout the year, proposing interventions and monitoring results each semester. The Minimum Acceptable Thresholds and Target Goals will be adjusted summer through early fall semester of 2024.

Minimum Acceptable Threshold and Target Goal

The College’s Student Success Council, a committee made up of both faculty and staff, determines the appropriate College minimum threshold and target goal and reviews results annually.

The College’s minimum threshold completion rate is 41%. The College expects to meet or exceed this value each year. This minimum threshold was established to be above the national benchmark, which HCC has exceeded in each year of this report. This threshold was established summer of 2021 and is scheduled to be revised by early fall 2024.

The College’s target goal completion rate is 50%. The Council established this goal to be 1 percentage point higher than the maximum over the previous 5 years. This target was established summer of 2021 and is scheduled to be revised by early fall 2024.
