HRMC Scholars Program

Dr. Chris Brown and Dr. Shelley White smiling for camera at signing event Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and Haywood Community College (HCC) are excited to announce the launch of a new Scholars Program, designed to provide a final dollars scholarship for health sciences students in exchange for a commitment to employment at HRMC upon graduation. The agreement will support students enrolled in the Registered Nurse, Nurse Aide I, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, and Paramedic programs at HCC, offering a pathway to stable, fulfilling careers in the healthcare field within Haywood County.

Through this partnership, program participants will receive financial assistance to complete their education, allowing them to stay within the local community to pursue career opportunities that contribute directly to the health and well-being of Haywood County residents.

“We are incredibly proud to be launching this Scholars Program in partnership with Haywood Community College,” said Chris Brown, RN, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. “As someone who began my educational journey at a community college, I understand the power of affordable education and the immense value it brings to both the individual and the community. This program is an opportunity to invest in the future of our local healthcare workforce and ensure that our patients receive the best care possible from individuals who are rooted in this community.”

The program was officially inaugurated with a signing event held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM in HCC’s Phyllis Prevost Health Sciences Education Building. This state-of-the-art facility, opened in 2023, houses advanced training spaces for health sciences students and is a testament to HCC’s commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for those pursuing careers in healthcare.

Shelley White, Ed.D., President of Haywood Community College, expressed her enthusiasm for the new program.

“This agreement is a shining example of the collaboration between Haywood Regional Medical Center and Haywood Community College to support the health of our county in every way,” said Dr. White. “By providing local students with the opportunity to complete their education and secure employment within our community, we are not only addressing immediate workforce needs but also ensuring a sustainable future for our region’s healthcare sector.”

Applications for HCC’s fall semester nursing program are open through January 31, 2025. Simply complete the college’s application to start the process.
