SBC WordPress 101 Summit

The Small Business Center at Haywood Community College will offer a Free virtual "WordPress 101 Summit" 10 am-noon and 1-3 pm, Thursday, February 11, 2021. If you're a beginner who is wondering if this is the right place for you – the answer is YES!

WordPress 101 is a hands-on virtual summit for small businesses new to WordPress. The goal of this two-part workshop is to assist small business owners in getting comfortable setting up and building a basic WordPress website or Blog. Participants will not be guaranteed to have a professionally built website in just 4 hours but should feel empowered to take the skills learned and build out a site to be proud of that can continue to grow and evolve.

During this virtual workshop, presenter Boomer Sassmann of Big Boom Design will walk attendees through:

  • Initial settings and basic security measures (what you need to do first thing to ensure a clean site)
  • Getting content on your website – basic pages used on most websites (Home, About, Contact, etc.), your first Post, how to use Categories (vs. Tags) to group similar content
  • Theme Selection for the 'look' you want, Sidebars and Widgets, and Social Media connections with your website
  • Plugins to enhance the functionality and appearance of your website

Attendees are encouraged to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions.
